These are our own prices for the oil we mill. They are not a market rate or a mandi index. The wider Kerala rate moves with copra, and refined or blended oil will always undercut cold-pressed unrefined oil per litre.
What moves the price of coconut oil in Kerala
- The price of copra
- Copra is coconut kernel dried until the moisture is gone, and it is the biggest single cost in a litre of oil. Its rate rises and falls with the harvest. When copra goes up in Alappuzha, every mill in the district follows.
- Cold pressing yields less
- A cold press leaves oil behind in the copra. High-temperature and solvent extraction do not. So more copra goes into every litre we bottle, and the price has to carry it.
- Refined is a different product
- The cheapest bottles on any shelf are refined: bleached, deodorised, usually blended with something else. Put one next to an unrefined bottle and you are not comparing like with like.
- Pack size
- Bottling and freight cost much the same for a small pack as a large one. Spread across five litres instead of half a litre, they come to far less. The tin works out at ₹359.80 a litre against ₹378 for the 500 ml bottle. Same oil, different packing.

- Why does cold-pressed coconut oil cost more than refined coconut oil?
- Cold pressing takes less oil out of the same quantity of copra than industrial extraction does, so a litre of cold-pressed coconut oil starts from more raw material. Refined oil is also usually blended and bought in bulk, while Mythri is pressed in the mill's own press in Alappuzha 688003, Kerala and bottled the same week. The price difference is the yield and the process, not a premium on the packaging.
